Director of Services (DOS)

Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000 annually, plus a full package of benefits

Start date: February/March 2026

Mission: EngAGE changes lives by transforming affordable senior and multigenerational apartment communities into vibrant centers of learning, wellness and creativity. EngAGE serves thousands of seniors and families in California, Oregon and Washington.

Position Purpose: The DOS reports to the EngAGE CEO and works closely with Director of Operations, NW Executive Director, and other staff members. The DOS is responsible for oversight and management of all contracted program services and program staff to effectively carry out the mission. The DOS represents EngAGE’s interests to its diverse stakeholders including residents, development partners, property management companies, aging and arts constituencies, educators, funders and philanthropic stakeholders, and media.

Position Vision: The DOS is a passionate advocate for aging and the arts, wellness, lifelong learning, and intergenerational programming opportunities for seniors and families in affordable housing. This position is able to articulate a compelling vision to all stakeholders. The DOS works in partnership with our developer partners and funders, management teams, community service partners, teachers and teaching artists, volunteers, and residents — each with their own distinct and shared responsibilities.

The DOS must be able to creatively strategize and innovate exemplary programming to meet organizational goals and challenges. This individual must be a creative and collaborative leader with excellent communication, problem-solving, and management skills.

Key Result Areas

Organizational Leadership:

·        Manage the EngAGE Program team in providing leadership in a manner that promotes initiative, fosters a healthy workplace, and creates individual growth opportunities.

·        Manage collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and guide staff and teachers and teaching artists in fulfilling the organizational vision and goals.

·        Lead the interviewing and selection process of new hires.

·        Work with the team to define Program Best Practices and establish Operating Procedures and Organizational Policies.

Fundraising:

·        Support the fundraising staff with identifying organizational program funding needs.

·        Support operating practices for the implementation of programs, events, and other needs as they arise.

·        Provide and ensure comprehensive program documentation for organizational purposes and reporting.

Community Advocacy and Public Relations:

·        Serve as an enthusiastic spokesperson for the organization to residents and stakeholders.

·        Facilitate effective relationships with all external stakeholders including visitors, community partners, the press, funders, and public officials.

·        Build collaborative strategic alliances to further advance the EngAGE mission.

Fiscal Responsibility:

·        Support and inform the development of the organization’s annual Fiscal Year budgets.

·        Manage organizational program expenses ensuring they are in line with the organizational budget.

·        Support and monitor systems for organizational spending including approval of expenditures and payroll for their team.

Developer Contracts:

·        Along with CEO and Director of Operations, oversee and manage relationships with developer partners in order to meet annual goals for program fee revenue.

·        Work in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Operations to establish a program service and budget to support a final developer contract providing a desirable ROI for all community developer contracts.

·        Ensure the program proposal contract covers all TCAC regulation and compliances while ensuring the EngAGE program model is incorporated.

·        Support the negotiation and secure developer contracts for program services (CEO has ultimate responsibility for negotiating and finalizing all contracts).

Job Qualifications

Experience:

·        Significant nonprofit leadership experience with a track record of success and growth.

·        A track record of being an inspiring and service-oriented leader who: can set long-term vision and effect change; is capable of imparting credibility, trust, integrity, and enthusiasm with an ability to motivate others.

·        Experience in strategic planning and implementation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·        Solid relationship-building skills and success managing people, projects, and budgets.

·        Knowledge of nonprofit governance policies.

·        Ability to multitask and work calmly under pressure.

·        Diplomatic skills and the ability to make and communicate hard decisions.

·        Experience in the aging and arts community.

·        A demonstrated passion for aging, arts and affordable housing and an understanding of its ability to effect change.

·        Excellent communication skills, and the ability to delegate.

·        Ability to work with diverse communities and varied personalities including an understanding of best practices for inclusiveness.

·        Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to create a supportive community.

·        Collaborative worker with mission-driven motivation.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities of 20 plus program staff.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position would also require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt, remote position. Organizational days and hours of work are Monday- Friday 8:00am to 5:00 pm. Work hours for this position are flexible based on a 40-hour work week.

Travel

Occasionally throughout the EngAGE regions.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree is not required, but preferred

·        Knowledge of senior or family communities in affordable housing

·        Excellent judgement and active listening

·        Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in program development responsibilities with grant writing responsibilities.

·        Ability to be flexible with hours when needed.

·        Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)

·        Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and ability to build relationships with women, coworkers, and community partners from diverse backgrounds.

·        Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, implement plans, and meet deadlines.

·        Active listening and problem-solving skills, a solution-oriented attitude, and good judgement.

·        Current valid California state driver’s license, comprehensive insurance, and good driving record
